Classification of Adhesives for Labels

There are water-based adhesive, solvent-based adhesive, and freezer adhesive for label applications.

Standard Self-Adhesive (Pressure-Sensitive) Adhesives:

Hot-melt adhesive > Solvent-based adhesive > Water-based adhesive > Hot-melt adhesive

Differences Between Water-Based Adhesive and Hot-Melt Adhesive:

Hot-melt adhesive: Relatively strong initial tack, but relatively poor holding power (shear strength).

Water-based adhesive: Initial tack is not particularly outstanding, but holding power is stable. Different levels of adhesion can be selected according to different usage environments.

Solvent-Based Adhesive:

Solvent-based adhesive has stronger adaptability than hot-melt and water-based adhesives. Although its initial tack is not as good as water-based adhesive, due to its stable adhesive properties, it is more effective at preventing edge curling in high-humidity environments compared to water-based adhesives. For surfaces that are uneven or contain impurities, solvent-based adhesive performs much better than water-based or hot-melt adhesives.

Freezer Adhesive:

This is an adhesive specifically designed for low-temperature environments. The face stock is coated paper with slight water resistance (laminated/film-coated). The suitable temperature range is approximately -10°C to -20°C. For freezer adhesive materials, waterproof freezer adhesive labels are also available.
