Depending on the method of collection/packaging, labels are divided into sheet labels (flat/individual labels) and roll labels (wound on a roll). What are the similarities and differences between these two types?
Similarities:
Both types consist of a self-adhesive label and a release liner. The adhesive labels themselves are the same, including the glue used and the printed content. There is no significant difference between the two in this regard.
Differences:
The two types are suited for different usage environments.
For non-fully automated production lines: Sheet labels are suitable for you. Production workers need to peel off each label one by one and apply it to the product.
For fully automated production and packaging lines (high output, high degree of automation, few operators): Roll labels are suitable for you.
Roll labels require an automatic labeling machine. The roll is mounted on the labeling machine, and the machine completes the labeling process.
Cost Differences:
Sheet labels: The production process is relatively simple, with low requirements for the release liner. Different production steps can be completed by different machines, so the cost of producing sheet labels is relatively lower.
Roll labels: The release liner requirements are high. When the automatic labeling machine applies labels, it needs to rotate bearings and pull the roller. If ordinary release liner is used, it can easily be torn. Therefore, roll labels require a higher-grade release liner material, which indirectly increases production costs.
Key Focus: Roll Labels
1. Label Unwind Direction
Based on the unwind direction (with the file placed upright, the direction in which the label is pulled out is the unwind direction), roll labels are divided into:Left unwind/Right unwind/Top unwind/Bottom unwind
The unwind direction must be confirmed with the customer before production. Different labeling machines have their own labeling requirements when shipped from the factory. This must not be confused.
2. Core Diameter
The inner diameter of the roll core is available in three sizes:3cm/4cm/7.5cm
3. Roll Specifications
The specific quantity per roll (length / number of labels /outer diameter) can be adjusted according to specific requirements.
Important Note: Roll label specifications need to be confirmed in advance to avoid errors during later production.
